Seeking Refuge

10.04.18

An evening with Holy Biscuit as part of Mixing Bowl. We shared in food and conversation as we considered stories of refuge - looking into the themes of ‘The Long Journey’, an exhibition of paintings by asylum seeker Ausama al Khalil.

Joined by Jonah Mesgar, who runs a Monday lunch and social group with his wife Mae in Newcastle for asylum seekers and refugees. He shared his personal story of seeking refuge, both as an asylum seeker and in coming to faith. We spent some time thinking about our own personal stories of seeking refuge and the places that we call home.

It was a  bring and share where guests were asked to bring a dish of food that they associate with comfort or home. And during the evening they were asked to write a label for their dish to explain the story behind it and why it is comforting.
