The xenia dinners

Ongoing

How does my whole life breath artistic hospitality? This is the question I have been musing over during my walk through life and whilst living under the roofs of many different families. These communities have embodied and extended different forms of hospitality and have shaped my developing thinking on this question.

These are a series of intentional moments in my life where I am thinking about how I can live out (breath) artistic hospitality in my whole being.  The main area that I am exploring at the moment is around the dinner table.

xenia: an ancient Greek concept of hospitality. The generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home and/or associates of the person bestowing guest-friendship. The rituals of hospitality created and expressed a reciprocal relationship between guest and host expressed in both material benefits (such as the giving of gifts to each party) as well as non-material ones (such as protection, shelter, favours or certain normative rights).

xenos: host or guest whose relationship is constructed under the ritual of xenia.
